Modern Warfare 2 servers down for PS3 players. Xbox 360 fanboys explode with joy

Achievement.aspxDETROIT, MICHIGAN (ICG)—Today in the streets of Detroit and surrounding suburbs, mass riots took place as Xbox 360 fanboys left their homes, their jobs, and their vehicles to wildly celebrate the “crash-heard-round-the-wibbles,” as Playstation 3 owners silently brooded and plotted their revenge. The reason for celebration? Modern Warfare 2 dedicated servers for the Playstation 3 are currently down, with no solid ETA for recovery.

Joystiq confirmed the outage on their own internal PS3, and found a Tweet from Activision support that claims, “We don’t have a hard ETA on the servers coming back up, but the outage is totally unrelated to the patch.”

Xbox 360 fanboys were seen to descend in hordes upon Playstation forums, gaming news sites, social sites, and even town squares, cheering wildly, chanting things like “PWNED!” and “LOL PS3 SUXX”. No violence has been reported yet, but we’ll keep an eye on this developing story.

    I would rather have an outage on something free then to have to fork over money each month to Microsoft to play games online. It allowed me time to complete the campaign missions and it was worth it.

    I'm sure they are working to fix this fast, I'm not terribly worried.
    360's have had much worse problems, last I checked I don't have to worry about my system getting the Ring of Death of overheating and frying like so many do. Enjoy your piece of crap 360, this problem has no bearing on the system, just a server issue.

    Can't complain really, in a way we all expected it at some point didn't we? So many people trying to get online, it was 100% sure IW would have underestimated the bandwidth they needed.

    I love my PS3 and love the fact online is free... but you must admit that $8 a month I pay for my Xbox 360 is worth it when I really make use of the content they have to offer.

    The sad thing about the one fanboy up above calling out Warhawk etc... Is there even 30 people playing the game still at any given time? I say this as an owner of that fun game that got old real quick

    From a Developer standpoint... The PS3 is 25% slower than the Xbox - But makes up for the slowness by having tons of disc storage so the files do not have to be super compressed.

    Also Uncharted 2 is finally a game that shows what today's gen console can really push out. If the studio developed it for the Xbox out the door the results would have been the same.

    I would rather have servers temporarily out for one game online, than:

    1. Getting my console banned (because i modded or they made a mistake and banned me)
    2. Paying $50 a year to play online, that's an EXTRA $300 added to the cost of my console if i have it for 6 years.
    3. Having a 55% chance of my console breaking due to multiple hardware failures including; RROD, E74 and other E errors, disc scratching, disc tray not popping out, AV video output malfunctioning, and 3rd party accessories not working or even breaking my system, and then waiting weeks or even months to get it fixed and returned.
    4. Only exclusives i get to play are First person shooters or third person shooters.
    5. Five halo games.
    6. Forecast: Gears of War 3, Left for Dead 3, Fable 3, Halo 6, and Natal Presents Party Games for Xbox 360 are your biggest exclusives next year.
    7. PAY the ultimate premium price for EVERY extra equipment or service that M$ has to offer that comes standard on other systems.

    and many more annoying things but these are the biggest and most annoying, just as annoying as all the 12 year old little boys on xbox live that f**ked my momma.

    When the people I work with who build games on the platform tell me otherwise, I tend to believe them. It wasn't until I asked why and got shown the reason why that I fully understood. By no means is my comment to discredit the system at all. The PS3 is an amazing piece of hardware, but has its technical flaws, just as any other hardware has...

Now i play all day an night for 2 days come on today and UPDATE i think ok cool so i download it then NO MORE ONLINE PLAY .... i think it was the update.     It is all because infinity ward and activision decided that only ONE server would be enough space to hold all the PS3 users who play Modern Warfare 2... I guess they were wrong.     Can people stop blaming activation for the servers being down and also IW because the fact of the matter is the server is ran by a third party with is suppose to maintain it and make sure that it doesn't crash so when moaning get the facts right a least and blame demonward for not being able to run a server the stupid Irish D##ks and yea i have had both xbox and playstation but found the play station to be much better than the xbox on many levels but the main thing is exclusives playstation has uncharted, killzone, GT5 (when it comes out), resistance etc and what the has xbox got halo (wow what a load of rubbish), gears and what a let down that is and also forza which is nothing compared to GT5

I am typing this post from my new G5 that is using the intertubes by being connected to my iPhone while my iHome blast music from my iPod that stores all my favs from the iStore and I am watching TV on my Apply TV with the TV box thingy...I don't know I payed one of those Apply guys like a few hundred dollars to come set this all up for me. Snow Tiger is the best OS ever and its only on version 8.3!

    PS3 over Xbox any day. There is actually no contest. Its pretty clear that people are unhappy with the Xbox if they are modifying them to resemble the PS3 and to download pirated games.     There seems to be many comments regarding the 360 red ring. Well, I had the ps3 yellow light three weeks ago. Purchased a new system, pre-ordererd the game and now I can't friginn play. Servers are down the day after release. I'm $500(new system, pre-order, etc.) in on this game on the ps3, and can't play. I'm not happy!!!!

    That was the problem. They estimated 400,000 but not millions ALL trying to get on at once. Barrel of monkeys can only fit so many monkeys. What they're doing is seeing how many players are actually going to be on so they can keep those servers. They don't want to open all servers again and have them all crash all over. So they're going to let a server fill up and move to the next.

That is right, the all mighty PS3 does have flaws. Though what sucks is that Sony charges you to fix your problem, I think even if you are under warranty. Microsoft, though they have red rings of death commonly, will replace your system even if it is past warranty. So even though yes the PS3 get those kinds of issues once in a blue moon, PS3s are not Gods of the consoles.

    2. PS3's are not backwards compatible anymore. Only the original releases had fully backwards compatibility. The Metal Gear Edition was the last one to have backwards compatibility that was limited. All the new systems, including I believe the PS3 slim that just came out, don't have that luxury. So for people who could not afford to get an older system are screwed and have to get a PS2. Hence why Sony still sells them for $120 or so.

    3. The only reason that the PS3 even got the trophy system was because Xbox was getting more customers because of its achievement system. Though even now, not all PS3 games that came out will have that system while Xbox had it since day one. And don't get me started on all the delayed promises with the PS3 home. Quite frankly, if that is your selling point for getting a PS3 you are sad. I don't even care about the avatar system on either system because I can just upload any picture I find from the internet and use it. All the stuff that the PS3 has is just pretty icing on a cake.

    4. Now, before all the PS3 fan boys start to hate on me for the obvious flaws that I pointed out with their beloved system, Xbox is not a God either. It does have lower graphic output than PS3. Yes, you have to pay for online. But, they get some exclusive content that you can only get through the Xbox, as well as some free demos of games that will come out. As do PS3 users. You both have to pay for any extra content you want for games, you both have to wait for updates to install on your systems, you both have to deal with cheating noobs. Yes, the customizing options for the 360 suck. And the only reason that customer support with Microsoft is better than Sony's is because Microsoft's needs to be in order to keep profits.

    Why can't we both just game on a console that we prefer? In the end you both get the same game, just different little icing on the cake based on system that you have.     I owned two 360s both got the red ring of death, its the worst, most unreliable console ever made. PS3 has never let me down, and cods multi being down is such a small issue in comparison to actually having a console that does work.

    The reason the PSN is free is because it is crap. Xbox live is well worth the cash.
    All those PS3 fanboys screaming RROD must have forgotten about the YLOD, which is much more widespread than sony would have you believe and unlike the xbox's RROD isn't covered by a 3 year warrantly.
    Not to mention the blu ray laser failing in a large number of consoles.
    Even the publishers are giving up on the PS3, how much publicity did MW2 get compared to the xbox version? PS3 owners have to convince themselves they own the better console, they don't want to believe they've paid over the odds for a chunk of crap.

    I own an x360 and slim ps3. I work in a game shop herein Uk. Fact is, The x360 looks like somethign you buy in the pound shop. The x360 has overheat issues. The x360 has a real dodgy way of keeping your credit card details when you sign up online, even when you ask them to clear your details, they don't, believe me they dont, there are threads all over the net for this.

    In my shop I have faulty x360 coming back every day due to overheat. While people have their console dead they are paying for online time they are not using,

    Xbox users have nothing to laugh about, I am one I know. The ps3's blue ray is beautiful, where si micrososfts blueray after there format died eh? And x360 disc are far to fragile and scratch or lazer burn stupidly fast. I have NEVER had a fault with my old 60gig or new slim. EVER. nor do I return them in my store daily. Ever console has a falt now and again, but none so much as the x360, and the elite does too, BELIVE IT.

    I am hapy with my ps3, I am not happy with my 360 due to facts I see EVERY day in work. I will not pay again for the online service for a console that is more fragile and flawed that a pair of paper underpants.

    While the Xbox has faults, it has proven to be one of the most competitive platforms in the world. 95% of all gaming tournaments for consoles are hosted on the Xbox & not the PS3. Yes the PS3 has more current advances in tech which give it an edge in being a media center style system... but 80% of games are released in 720p anyways.

    The cost to develop games on the PS3 is more & most studios develop the games on Xbox than port over to the PS3. It may be sad fact for all us PS3 guys but it is true.

    As for more games? Yes Sony has more gaming contracts and games will boom very shortly while xbox games have already all but died out.

    While this is true currently. The PS3 lacked majorly in launch titles. but the strong fact is 50% of the games coming to the PS3 that are contracted are utter crap.

    Also MS unlocked a win vs. the PS3 which can be found in sales... Even with the hardware failure rate Xbox turns a bigger profit than Sony.

    I've never had my xbox break on it's own. I had a bolt of lighting take out my first 360's network port, but I sold it and got a updated 360 with hdmi for 200 bucks, and what do you know? It's been chugging along ever since. No cons from the 360 over here. So good day chaps. Oh and, you ps3 fannies have fun with your netflix disk as well.

Note the people that have bought 9 or 10 or 50 xboxes before they switch to ps3 and are finally relieved that their system didn't blow up after 2 hours of game-play.

    I've had my PS3 a year left it on accidentally for days a couple times and it was hardly warm. Try that with an xbox and your house will start on fire.

    PS3's come with warranties covering manufacturer defects, hardware and software defects they cover everything so long as you did not try to alter your console or unreasonable use. They can afford to do so because they have confidence in their consoles.

    Also keep in mind that PS3 was released a year after the Xbox360

    You claim the 1080p awesomeness than contradict saying you would rather have solid 720p titles than none at all. I also hate to break it to you but the Xbox360 outputs in 1080p also. But hey being blinded by Sony facts might have your head clouded.

    You must remember I own a PS3 in fact I have an original from the first day they hit the streets in the US. But to bad for all the kids who buy the new ones that have been stripped down to nothingness so that Sony can make a profit or at least try to.

    The fact that Xbox's break is pointless as MS has already admitted they made a great console with shit hardware & chummed up and replaced every ones kit that has had an issue. Sony's support has been nothing less than utter crap. You most likely don't know this because your PS3 hasn't had issues. but the ones that did get jacked consoles had to pull teeth to get Sony to replace it.

    PS3 requires a disc in the BDR drive to play Netflix movies. I have the disc & I have the service. They went that route due to the agreement with MS douche....

    As stated the Xbox has provided a solid gaming platform that is competitive in nature. The PS3 has it perks but overall the community around the Xbox is solid. Regardless of the monthly fee to play MP games, the service blows away what PSN offers & has more content to keep its gamers happy. That my friend can't be argued as PSN is utter crap in comparison.

    The SNES had a larger color palette. Looking at a Genesis title was like gray scale compared to the SNES beautiful Technicolor.
