Marvel vs. Capcom 2 music video

In an attempt make the XBLA re-release of “Marvel vs. Capcom 2” more relevant and interesting to gamers, Capcom is assembling a soundtrack to go with the game. The soundtrack will be called “The Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Mixtape”, and they’ve just released the first video from that soundtrack, called “Battle Drum”, from the hip-hop band Hieroglyphics.

The video features Del tha Funkee Homosapien (what a name!), A-Plus, Phesto, Tajai, Casual, Pep Love, and has a cameo from Capcom’s John Diamonon. The song was produced by Domino, and is performed mainly by Tajai, with contributions from Casual and Pep Love.

The video is purposefully reminiscent of classic fighting games, with the rappers boxing in several different settings with low quality special effects to match. The video and song are also slightly cheesy, which was perhaps  a not-so-intentional homage to the fighting game genre, but the beat of the music is catchy enough.

I think Capcom should have used their budget to actually test their games online and fix glitches instead of squandering it on some poorly crafted hype videos. The game was going to do fine in sales. No need to hype up one of the - if not the most - hyped fighting game ever.

Too many game/tournament breaking glitches, one of the shittiest lobbies in a fighting game and poor online matchmaking.

The only thing that went right with the HD port is the netcode when you can actually get a match in. GG to GGPO. At least they did justice on that. Yay for proper lag input masking.
