Black Friday: Where the wild deals are

Cliff Forster (Cliff_Forster) The bum economy might have put the kibosh on some of the more outrageous deals, but gamers still have plenty to look forward to on Black Friday.

If you are like most of us, then you are a cheap, money-grubbing bastard looking to stretch a razor thin budget to fuel your crippling gaming addiction. For us, Black Friday not only marks an opportunity to recover from a turkey hangover, but it also serves as a day to save a mint on our favorite consoles, games and accessories.

This year’s Black Friday winner appears to be Walmart, which is offering three major hardware deals at significant discounts. Leading the way, the retailer will tempt hardcore gamers with the best Playstation 3 bundle offered to date. The deal includes two titles, Infamous and Batman: Arkham Asylum, and a Blu-ray of critically acclaimed The Dark Knight, all at the standard PS3 MSRP of $299. Other deals include a Nintendo DS Lite for $98, and a pitiful Xbox 360 Arcade bundle that includes the Madagascar 2 game and DVD.

On the software side, Target has a nice promo where select new titles will come with a free $10 gift card good for use on a future purchase. Titles in on the deal include Assassins Creed II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, both for the 360 and PS3. Rounding out Target’s list of offerings, the company has marked down the new Need For Speed: Shift to $37.

Finally, parties willing to endure the angry masses chasing Best Buy’s TV and laptop deals can snag PC copies of Bioshock and World of Warcraft for just $4.99.

Not man enough to brave the crowds at the crack of dawn? Don’t fret. You can always cruise Icrontic’s Newegg and Amazon affiliate links from the safety of your underwear; both sites have historically offered impressive Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Play on, cheapos.

  1. I tell you what - I'm so tempted to bite on the netbook NewEgg is selling for 200 bones.

Problem being, I don't know what the hell I would do with a netbook

  2. Bump! Steam store sales added

  3. I am very disappointed on the deals this year. While the PS3 deal is pretty good if you're looking for one, nothing out there really appeals to me as something that is a must buy.

  4. Nice find Prime!

  5. I am saddened that the Lucas Arts package doesn't include one of the greatest games of all time: TIE Fighter.

  6. staples 1 terabyte external Seagate for 69, I am going just for that!

I wouldn't have even noticed if you didn't say anything. I'm not sure if I should thank you or not. I don't *need* a netbook, per se. However, I've been dying for one. Looks like I now have one.

  8. Friday looks like the day I snag Arkham Asylum.

Might have to see if I can fool my GTX 285 into running PhysX for an HD5850...

  9. On the steam sale, anyone have issues with the older Lucas titles on Windows 7?

  10. I just grabbed Grid, Kotor, and Dragon Age deluxe edition for under €60. I'm thankful for Steam!

  11. Did anyone notice the THQ complete pack, a ton of great game for $50.

  12. only problem with these bundle deals are they are a bit outdated.

I hear ya Crazy Joe - I think it would be more appealing if steam decided to include more recent titles much like the COD, L4D titles.

Kinda disappointed in the deals this year =(

Its only day 1.5 of a 5 day sale. Who knows what would happen towards the end.

Arkham Asylum is barely 3 months old and Dragon Age is less than a month.

Also check out EA downloads are 30% of select titles.

  14. Not select - 30% off of everything in the catalog.

And I still bought Dragon Age on Steam, because EA's online store sucks balls, and they charge you to redownload your software after a while. No thank you, sir.

That's also true. But then if L4D and COD"MW2 aren't on there somewhere, i'm going to be an unhappy camper =(

  16. Steam FTW. KOTOR, GRID, and Plants vs Zombies for $22.

  17. New steam deals are up.

  18. l4d2 $30 at amazon (going pretty quick though)

  19. EDIT: Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

  20. New Steam Deals are up.

Holly smokes! Haven't seen L4d this low before - $7.49! Buy it while it lasts!
