You'll rot your brain, Jackie!

You'll rot your brain, Jackie!

My hands are slightly clammy right now and my heart is practically beating out of my chest. I just discovered that the Frag Dolls, the girl gaming team for Ubisoft, are looking for two new girls to join their team. This is a moment that I’ve been waiting for since I first heard about them two years ago; the job that I’ve been hoping to find when I graduate this coming May. I never thought in my wildest dreams that my possible career would line itself up so nicely—there’s almost no job that I can think of right now that I’d want more than this one—but there’s just one tiny hitch: Getting the job.

I haven’t been playing video games for a long time. I asked for a video game console when I was about twelve years old. My mother refused to get me one because she said, “You’ll get addicted.” When I did finally get my fingers on some games at the late age of nineteen, I found that she was right. I also found that there was a fantastic, wide world full of games and gamers out there that I wanted to explore.

I got a copy of Everquest II and picked out an elf for my first online character. Wood elf, to be specific, with crimson hair and a big scimitar. Since I quickly realized that EVERYONE plays an elf to begin, and I wasn’t interested in being another stereotypical big boobed cookie cutter hot avatar, I rerolled and began a gnome. At first, I didn’t like the fact that the game was online. I was afraid of interacting with others; I knew very little about the online world. As time passed though, I joined a guild, and I began to make friends and try other games. I realized how amazing the online world of gaming is—how it connects people across the globe and allows you to explore worlds that you never thought could exist in the real world. I have met such amazing people that now mean so much to me—many of them right here at Icrontic—and I just wish that I had known about this stuff sooner.

But I’m afraid that since I did start so recently, and there are so many games that I haven’t tried yet, that I don’t have enough gaming experience to join the Frag Dolls. I want this job SO badly for a variety of reasons, most of which I will articulate here as time goes by. But the first part thing I need to do before anything else is build my gaming resume. I’m going to have to get an Xbox 360, and start fragging away. But my April 22nd deadline is coming fast, and I’ve got a lot to do.  I just hope that I have enough time to get everything done.

Sounds great! Once you hop on the stick (360) and get familiar with console FPS games I'm sure you'll have no problem.

Don't you have to be good at video games, not just addicted to them?

^ Don't take that. If anyone can do it, it's you!

GLHF to you and your Scmitar. I never quite liked console games as much as playing on the PC itself. Too hard to aim. But I played the shooters. Professional gaming would be awesome though.

Just drink lots of red bull and game 23/7 (1 hour power nap) lol.

    GOOD LUCK

Good luck GQ. If you have to pick a Frag Doll name, I vote for Bonerator

    Good luck!

Have you been trying to get your name out there with them? I know they have a forum and an IRC channel. If you haven't hung out in them it might be a good way to get your name in their minds and keep it there.
