Mini-review: Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

No, because a 5th grader wouldn't buy this dumb game.

No, because a 5th grader wouldn't buy this dumb game.

Sometimes you get bored, and while flipping through the Xbox Live Arcade, you see something that, against your better judgment, you decide to try out. Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? was that game for my girlfriend and I.

The game is based off of the hit TV show on Fox.  It comes packed with 6,000 questions in 21 subjects, offers online multiplayer for 2-4 people, and features the voice acting of Jeff Foxworthy.  It is essentially an identical copy of the TV show.  From the host to the “middle school lifelines”, nothing has changed.

The cons of the game by far outweigh the pros.  First: the price. Get ready to fork over 1200 MS points for this 97mb gem.  That’s asking a lot for a game you’ll probably only play once in a great while.  The game is extremely short;  you can beat it in less then 10 minutes and when you do finish the game you’ll be very disappointed.

I downloaded and played the game with my girlfriend on Saturday night.   We went head to head for four rounds and the total time we spent on the game was a mere 34 minutes. By then we were sick of it. We wanted nothing more to do with it.  We turned it off and played Guitar Hero for the rest of the night.

I suppose that under certain circumstances the game could be considered fun and the questions can often be more challenging than you would think, but for the price and the short game play it’s not worth the download.  Do yourself a favor and get a cheaper game that will last longer, like A Kingdom for Keflings.
