New Releases for The Week of Dancing with Spiders

Dance Central 2

This is a big week for releases, as we stert to get into the early parts of the holiday season. First up, let’s look at Dance Central 2. Dance Central has become a very popular game among Kinect owners, bringing in audiences who would never have played ‘dance’ games before. Why? Because it’s the first dance game that cannot be gamed. The Kinect makes it truly accurate, and the feedback is strong. It’s not just about moving the motion-sensitive controllers to a certain angle, which is easy to do without actually dancing—this game needs the player to actually get the moves right across their entire body to be successful. The only real drawback to the game was that it was solo only—despite the adverts which showed groups of four dancers playing along, there was no multi-player mode to get people going at a party. Enter Dance Central 2. The new game has more tracks and more dancers and what-not, of course, but the big thing is that it allows two dancers to play side-by-side in either competitive or co-operative dance modes. Now, when your significant other wants to play Dance Central with you, there is no excuse not to. Dance Central 2 is $49.99 on Amazon

The Haunted: Hell's Reach

The Haunted: Hell’s Reach is a third-person over-the-shoulder adventure game with a demonic theme. The gameplay is similar to Left 4 Dead, with demons instead of zombies to fight. Players can get through alone, but the game seems intended for four-player co-operative play. There are more than 20 demon types to fight, and lots of weapons which can be upgraded for even more variety. No info about weather the A.I. of the enemies is similar to L4D’s Director A.I., but it does have a versus mode in which another four players take on the role of the demons, attempting to defeat the players. An additional death-match style mode is called ‘Demonizer’. In this mode a group of players compete to be the last alive, while dead human players are turned into repeatedly respawning demons. The Haunted: Hell’s Reach is available for $17.99 on Steam, $19.99 on Amazon, and is coming to Xbox Live as well as the PlayStation Network.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland

After Kirby’s successful comeback in Kirby’s Epic Yarn last year, it was only a matter of time before we saw another new Kirby, and here he is in Kirby’s Return to Dreamland. As the name implies, this game is a return to a more classic Kirby with his more traditional suck-attack and power absorbtion abilities. Of course with a whole new set of enemies, his potential powers are widely varying. An alien ship has commanderkeened into Dreamland, and Kirby and his friends Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Waddle Dee, set out to help him get his ship back together. The graphics are similar to New Super Mario Wii, and so is another aspect: The multiplayer, which is drop-in drop-out for up to four players. Interestingly, each player is not required to pick a differnt character, as one might expect. If all four players want to be Kirby, so be it. That’s a lot of Kirby, though, so I’d be careful with that. Kirby’s Return to Dream Land is available on Amazon for $49.99.

Centipede: Infestation screenshot

Centipede: Infestation

The Icrontic Spotlight this week weaves back and forth through the grass to reach Centipede: Infestation. You think you know what it’s like to wait a long time for a sequel? This one is for the ages. The story is the same, as far as I can tell—you’re either a tiny dude who has to defend a garden from insects or a normal dude who has to defend a giant garden from giant insects. Either way, there’s this centipede guy and his spider friends, and they want to eat you. This time they’ve brought some other bugs along also. The gameplay is essentially a 3D co-op tower defender, a gameplay genre which is quickly becoming very popular. In this game there are 35 levels over 7 environment types, and ‘a variety’ of weapons, towers, and bugs to play with. The co-op mode is for two players only, and works split-screen on the Wii or over the 3DS wi-fi connection with one cartridge. Centipede: Infestation is $29.96 for Wii, and the same for the 3DS version.

Canti How could you not even mention the main game this week with the 3? The BIG 3 that everyone's been talking about and looking forward to for months, probably even years? I can't believe you would even think of doing such a thing. People aren't going to be able to consider you a relevant review writer without even saying one sentence about it so if you won't I will.
