New Releases for the Week of Angsty Vampire Hunters and Robot Saviors

New Releases for the Week of Angsty Vampire Hunters and Robot Saviors

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair

The big deal with Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is the new multi-player modes. Players will be able to team up in the 2d classic platformer to defeat levels a bit more complex than the “Boss Rush” mode offered in the past. In addition, players will be able to go head to head in a versus mode, in which up to six players face off against one another. The other prominently touted new feature for this iteration is a more detailed map system, which allows the player to essentially zoom out to see a detailed layout of the entire level, rather than a symbolic map, and even play the game from that perspective. Beyond these changes, this Castlevania is business as usual for the revamped series.

BlayzBloo: Super Melee Brawlers Battle Royale

BlayzBloo: Super Melee Brawlers Battle Royale is a goofy fighting game in the janky, low-polygon, 3D style we all now recognize as part and parcel with the DS. It is essentially a Chibi-stylized version of big brother “serious” fighter BlazBlue. Players choose a fighter, all of which seem to have roughly the same controls, and head into a 3d arena, in which they duke it out among cartoony items and weapons. There is also a campaign mode, in which the player must fight through five levels of computer opponents.

Widgets Odyssey 2

Earlier this summer in Widgets Odyssey, players met the five interstellar robots who have taken it on themselves to save the universe from the tyrannical Yagor. Widgets Odyssey 2 is the conclusion of their story. Like the first one, this game is a cross between an adventure game, a puzzle game, and a platformer, in which players will use the abilities of the five distinct robots to complete lots of different challenges. This game marks the end of Frima’s “Summer of the PlayStation Mini” event.

Superstars V8 Racing

This week’s Icrontic spotlight shines on the Italian paint job of Superstars V8 Racing. This racing game, under the SuperStars licence, features lots of different ways to play, including distinctive Arcade and Simulation modes of each game type, which alter the mechanics to suit many different players. This in addition to some incredible photo-realistic graphics make it a no-brainer for fans of modern racing games.

Cliff_Forster I love me some old school 2D Castlevania. The formula never gets old for me.
