New Releases for the Week of Angry Bears and Warring Robots

New Releases for the Week of Angry Bears and Warring Robots

15 Days

In the new PC adventure game 15 Days, players follow the story of three philanthropic thieves and a determined detective as their lives revolve around the murder of a British Foreign Secretary. Follow the clues from four points of view, use interesting gadgets and tools to steal valuable artifacts, and uncover a deep conspiracy. People who enjoy point-and-click adventure games, but who are looking for something a little grittier than most of the current offerings in the genre, may want to take a closer look.

Naughty Bear

The cross platform release Naughty Bear hits shelves this week. In this 3D fighter, players will take the role of the naughtiest stuffed bear in the woods as he takes his revenge on the bears who snubbed him. On the surface it looks like another simple button masher, but some of the features include learning AI and enemies who form into different factions depending on the player’s choices, changing the course and style of the game as it advances.

RISK: Factions

For download on Xbox 360 and PS3 this week, we get RISK: Factions. This new take on the classic RISK boardgame can be played against AI or multi-player locally or online, and follows fairly typical RISK rules. The gimmick here is that the players can each choose from among five factions: Humans, Robots, Zombies, Cats, and Yetis, each with different powers on the game map. The animations and stylized graphics frankly look sort of dumb, but it’s still a neat idea, and deserves some attention if you like this sort of gameplay.

Transformers: War for Cybertron

This week’s Icrontic spotlight is outshone by the spark of the cross-platform release, Transformers: War for Cybertron. Long before contact with Earth, Cybertron broke out into a civil war between the two now famous factions, the Autobots and the Decepticons—and in this new game, players get to join in that war as Cybertron falls apart around them. The game is played in team-based matches in which each player chooses a side and a class. Similar to other games in the genre, there will be simple gunners, sneaky scouts, scoped snipers, and more. The main feature is that, as expected, each character class may also turn into an appropriate vehicle with different weapons and abilities. Game modes include team and solo deathmatches, King of the Hill, capture the flag, capture points, and bomb delivery. In addition, there is a single-player mode in which players choose between two campaigns and fight their way across the dying world with up to three friends in co-operative play. The Wii edition of the game, Transformers: Cybertron Adventures will include bonus campaign missions, but only two-player co-op and no multi-player. The DS edition is broken into two flavors—one for each side—has a total of 11 characters which are exclusive to that platform, and allows multi-player over DS WiFi.

kryyst Risk Factions looks awesome. But of all the releases Puzzle Quest 2 should absorb my soul for a good while to come, just like the first one, which still gets played regularly.
